The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is seeking a Road Safety Technical Manager for the Road Safety at Work (RSAW) program. This part-time (up to 21 hours/week) contract role serves as the program’s lead subject matter expert, guiding the development of resources and delivery of services to protect British Columbia workers who drive for work or work at the roadside.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development & Delivery

  • Provide expert input on the creation of digital resources, including the RSAW website, meeting guides, tip sheets, plan and procedure templates, quizzes, newsletters, and videos.
  • Advise on the development of webinars, presentations, and workshops; participate in their delivery as needed.
  • Assist in the design and development of online courses.
  • Offer insights on the production of printed materials, such as conference brochures.
  • Ensure all digital and printed content remains relevant, accurate, and up to date.

Advisory & Consultation

  • Provide one-on-one mentoring and advice to BC employers and individuals on workplace road safety.
  • Contribute to the development of RSAW’s annual work plans and long-term service strategies, ensuring a focus on priority road safety issues.
  • Stay informed on road safety trends and emerging topics through ongoing research and consultation with industry sources.

Qualifications & Expertise

The Road Safety Technical Manager must:

  • Have in-depth knowledge of road safety requirements outlined in the Workers Compensation Act, WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and BC Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
  • Be an effective communicator, skilled in presenting, facilitating workshops, and leading discussions both in-person and online.
  • Be a collaborative team player, capable of working closely with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Be willing to travel for RSAW team meetings, conferences, and in-person events as required.

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A diploma in a safety-related discipline.
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in road safety, occupational health and safety (OHS), transportation safety, or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant policies, legislation, and legal terminology, including the BC Motor Vehicle Act and Workers Compensation Act.
  • Expertise in safety principles and practices, particularly those governed by WorkSafeBC regulations.
