Safe behind the wheel? Using innovations in clinical epidemiology to inform decisions about fitness to drive webinar
Doctors are often asked to make decisions about patients’ medical fitness to drive. Medical driving restrictions can improve road safety but are known to have substantial social, occupational, and quality-of-life consequences for the individuals who must cease driving. To date, very few empirical data have informed clinical fitness-to-drive guidelines.
In this webinar, Dr. Staples will discuss recent research from his lab that uses a unique set of linked administrative health and driving data to generate evidence to inform clinical fitness-to-drive decisions. The talk will highlight study designs with broad application to injury prevention research, including cohort, case-crossover, and responsibility studies. He will focus on fitness-to-drive decisions for individuals with high-priority conditions including schizophrenia, syncope, and recent cardiac defibrillator implantation.
