2012 – 2016
The issue of work-related motor vehicle crashes is a significant one for BC workers and employers. On average each year, 1,300 workers are killed or injured and miss time from work as a result of a motor-vehicle crash. That’s an average of six people every working day. While claims were down during the 2013 - 2015 period, they rose again in 2016. See the first graph below for the number of time-loss claims in each of the last five years.
After a significant drop in 2015, the number of workers killed in crashes was also up again in 2016 however not to the same degree as earlier in the 2012-2016 period. The second graph below shows the number of crash-related fatalities during the period.
